    The CAGP and CCSMH look forward to welcoming you to the Pre-Conference Course (PCC). This course will be held in Halifax at the Halifax Marriott Harbourfront Hotel on October 11, 2018.

    The PCC will be a full day of concurrent courses (2.5 hours) and lectures (1 hour) of interest and importance to geriatric psychiatrists, geriatricians, family physicians and allied health professionals interested in learning more about geriatric psychiatry. A dynamic group of expert speakers has been assembled. Topics include substance abuse, anxiety disorders, capacity assessments, deprescribing, ethical issues in Medical Assistance in Dying, and more.     Group Rate for Non-Physician Allied Health: Registration Instructions

    *Before registering please note that one person of the group is required to register ALL 5+ Allied Health Professionals from the same physical location - this is the only way to receive the group rate. The first registrant will be the main contact. *Please ensure you have collected all the relevant information from your group in order to register them. There will only be one invoice issued. To register at the Non-Physician Allied Health Group rate please follow the instructions below:

    1. Click "Register" button on the left panel of the screen.
    2. Enter your email address.
    3. Choose "Non-Physician Allied Health Group rate" as the registration type. 
    4. As the main registrant fill out your information first.
    5. After completing your personal registration form, click the button at the end of the page that says "Add Guest".
    6. Fill out the personal information and details for the 2nd person in the group.
    7. Once completed, click the button at the end of the page labeled "done" and review the information added.
    8. Click the "Add Guest" button at the bottom of the page to register the 3rd, 4th and 5th members of the group.
    9. Click the button labeled "Next" to complete the registration for all 5+ people in your group.
    10. On the next page you will be asked to "Invoice Me" to pay later - the invoice will then be sent to the main registrants email. Or you can choose "Pay online" which will redirect you to the PayPal website where you can pay as a guest or through your PayPal account.

    CANCELLATION POLICY: Cancellations will only be accepted on or before September 21, 2018. No credits or refunds will be given for cancellations received after September 21, 2018. Substitutions may be made at any time. No liability is assumed by CAGP for changes in program date, content, speakers, venues or cancellation of the event.

    It is with great excitement that we invite you to join us for our joint meeting, CAGP-CCSMH Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) of the Canadian Academy of Geriatric Psychiatry (CAGP) and Canadian Coalition of Senior's Mental Health (CCSMH) from October 12-13, at the Halifax Marriott Harbourfront Hotel. We are also hosting a Pre-Conference Course (PCC) on October 11th at the Halifax Marriott Hotel -- click here for more details on the PCC and to register!

    All Allied Health Professionals (Non-Physician) attending the 2018 Annual Scientific Meeting will automatically receive a free 1-year membership to the CAGP until June 1, 2019! Allied Health Professionals will receive an email regarding their membership after registering for the conference.

    The Canadian Academy of Geriatric Psychiatry and Canadian Coalition for Seniors' Mental Health will be offering an opportunity for residents and organizations to connect through a job board at the 2018 Annual Scientific Meeting on October 12-13 at the Halifax Marriott Harbourfront Hotel.

    The CAGP-CCSMH is inviting all institutions and organizations to post job opportunities, which will be displayed for all attendees for the duration of the conference. 

    Please note that the CAGP-CCSMH will be physically posting your job ad on a board. You are required to print and bring any additional handouts to the registration desk to be displayed.

    Tighten your laces! Let the competition and fun begin!

    We are planning to hold the 3rd annual Fun Run/Walk in support of the CAGP. Challenge your colleagues, friends and family to join you on this 5 km run or 3 km walk through scenic Halifax!  

    When: Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 7:00 a.m.

    Start Location: Halifax Marriott Harbourfront Hotel

    Details: 5 km run or 3 km walk

    Entry Fee: $35.00

    Once you have registered for the Fun Run/Walk, you will be assigned to a team based on your location (e.g. Bluenosers for Maritime provinces). Team donations are encouraged and can be directed to support the CCSMH, CAGP resident and trainee awards and initiatives, education or advocacy efforts.

    If you haven’t participated in the CAGP Fun Run/Walk before there are no excuses to sit it out this year! Highlights and additional features of this year’s event include:

    1. Beautiful, scenic 5 km route for runners (30 minutes) and 3 km route for walkers (45 minutes)
    2. Start time has been moved to 7:00 a.m., allowing you an extra hour of sleep!
    3. The team that raises the most in donations will be awarded the "Resilience Cup"! To donate to a team, click here.
    4. Also new this year, CAGP/CCSMH is opening up our Fun Run/Walk to our gracious host community! Organizations and individuals from Halifax and the Nova Scotia region who wish to support our cause will be able to participate or donate as well. This will help us to raise awareness about seniors’ mental health and raise funds to support the important work of the CAGP and CCSMH.

    This promises to be a really fun event for all participants, and a great way to raise funds and awareness for seniors’ mental health. Come out and enjoy the company of your colleagues while taking in the beauty and history of Halifax. We look forward to seeing you there!

    CAGP-CCSMH Fun Run Route Information

    1. Start at the conference Hotel – Waterfront Marriott
      - Meet in the lobby at 7:00a.m. sharp
      - If you are participating as a team, please get together at this time
      - Determine if you're going to walk or run
    2. We will begin by walking along the waterfront and boardwalk
    3. We will zip past the historic properties with shopping and fun pub-life. You will see the Dartmouth Ferry to your left, and Canada’s only mouth blown and hand cut crystal at Nova Scotia Crystal on your right
    4. We will continue on the boardwalk going by many fun eateries, the iconic Wave Sculpture, and finally the Discovery Centre
    5. We will take a left at Halifax’s wonderful Farmer’s Market
      - For those interested in visiting another time, the Market is right next to the National Museum of Pier 21 – Canada’s Immigration Gateway 
    6. We’ll then head up Marginal Road, then Terminal Road
    7. We’ll round the bend to South Street where you’ll hit your first – and only – hill of the journey. We will take the right at Queen Street so we ca catch a view of one of CNN’s “Top 10 Eye-Popping Buildings of 2014”: The Halifax Central Library. Just look closely and you will see that the building is a stack of books! 
    8. From there, we will steer left onto the fun and packed Spring Garden Road – another fun shopping destination
    9. Then we will catch a left onto South Park Street to run by the beautiful Victorian flower displays of the Halifax Public Gardens
    10. Finally, we will weave around the National Historic Citadel Hill, then head back down Duke Street to arrive at the hotel

    Maud Lewis Gallery Tour: An Afternoon with Maudie

    Art Gallery of Nova Scotia

    Maud  Lewis  was  a  famous  Nova Scotia folk  artist  who  exemplified  resilience  by  creating  brightly  colored  art  work  full  of  optimism  and  joy  in  spite  of  serious  life  hardships  including  severe  rheumatoid  arthritis  that  limited  the  size  of  the  canvases  she  could  paint.  Her  actual  home  was  8  ft  by  10.8  ft  and  painted  with  folk  art  all  over it.  Her  house  was  later transported  whole  to  the  Nova Scotia  Art  Gallery  where  it  is  now on  exhibit.

    The Maud Lewis Gallery is a part of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia and is only a 4 minute walk from the Halifax Marriott Harbourfront Hotel. The tour is guided and is approximately 20-25 minutes. The group rate is $8 which will also give you full access to the rest of the museum.
