Working Lunch
Residential Long-Term Care for Canada's Seniors: Nonprofit, For-Profit or Does it Matter?
January 24, 2011 11:45 a.m.- 2:00 p.m. InterContinental Toronto Yorkville 220 Bloor Street West
The Institute for Research on Public Policy is pleased to invite you to join Mel Cappe, President, IRPP, at a working lunch to discuss the determinants of quality in residential long-term care for frail seniors, with speakers Margaret McGregor (University of British Columbia), co-author of a new IRPP Study on this topic, Jeff Lozon (Revera Inc.) and Gail Dobell (Ontario Health Quality Council).
As the Canadian population ages, all provinces will need to expand their residential long-term care capacity to accommodate frail seniors undefined based on projections for 2041, as many as 300,000 new beds will be required to address growing care needs. While these services are for the most part publicly funded, they are delivered by a mix of public, nonprofit and for-profit organizations, with a greater reliance on the for-profit sector in recent years. Does the type of ownership of residential care facilities matter for the quality of care delivered? What are the indicators and determinants of quality in residential care? What are the policy implications of the research evidence on residential care quality going forward? These are some of the most important health care issues that governments are likely to confront in coming years.
Complimentary copies of the study by Margaret McGregor and Lisa A. Ronald will be available at the working lunch. The presentations will be followed by a question period.
